Sanjay Dixit - a member of the Central Employment Guarantee Council - claims that UP has received Rs. 20,000 crore under NREGA in the past four years. But only 40 per cent of the fund has reached the targeted beneficiaries- Why the central Government to get the review or evaluation then and there before releasing funds ?

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is an Indian job guarantee scheme, enacted by legislation on August 25, 2005. The scheme provides a legal guarantee for one hundred days of employment in every financial year to adult members of any rural household willing to do public work-related unskilled manual work at the statutory minimum wage of Rs120 per day in 2009 prices.The Central government outlay for scheme is Rs 40,000 crore in FY 2010-11.This act was introduced with an aim of improving the purchasing power of the rural people, primarily semi or un-skilled work to people living in rural India, whether or not they are below the poverty line. Around one-third of the stipulated work force is women. The law was initially called the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) but was renamed on 2 October 2009.While many states implemented it the amount actually gone to the beneficiaries is between 40 - 80% of the allotted and the remainder to the bureau ...more

By remaining silent so far, these officials and the UPA government are also equally responsible for this scam I would say, as they have also aided the scam

A review can be made only after completion of a work or project.However, the UPA seems more interested in finding fault with non congress ruled states.Non the less a major portion of the funds in UP has been leaked.
