The oldest living person is a woman - 115 years old Maria de Jesus, hailing from Portugal). .

Maria gets up at 11 a.m. everyday, and she does not live in any nursing home. She never smoke, drank alcohol, or coffee. She has been to the hospital once in her life. She avoids eating meat, and prefers to eat fish and vegetables. Her favorite dessert is the rice cake.

She had lost the use of 1 of her eyes as a child, and began work in the fields at age 12. She married in 1919 and became a widow at 57 (1951). 3 of her 5 children are alive at the time of her 115th birthday. She has 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Maria never went to school.
