1)Sometimes numbers could be misleading. Numbers alone are not sufficient to say that India is the largest consumer market today. At present India is 12th largest consumer market and is expected to reach 5th position by 2025 when its real consumption grows from the present Rs.17 T to Rs.70 Trillion.
2)The deciding factor here is the real spending power of consumers. Americans still occupy the top position followed by Japan, U.K. Germany and China. Compared to them, Indians per capita income and purchasing power is still lower. However, it has been steadily increasing and would continue to do so in the years ahead.
