Where does this \'thought\' came from?
The Lord does not make any gradations in devotion. A devotion essentially implies a thinking beyound oneself. So whether it is Laxman or Shrtrughana\'s and what are the objects of devotion does not essentially matter. However, Ram\'s \'prference for the latter \'makes sense. Bharat was no god or his incarnation. He is held high because of his reunciation of the claim to the throne(which thouse not in keeping with the laws of succession did not entirely amount to usurpation of the throne since such successios were not unknown). However, Rama rightly helo Shagtrughna\'s devotion to brother Bharat as superior for it was love pure and simple devoid of any desire of expectation of any favours or benefits. In fact, while Ramayan does not make any mention of Shatrugfhna\'s help to Bharat in managing the kingdom for 14 years such a help must have been considerable since Bharat was more or less stationed at Nandigram for the period. There was no hope or no ...more

Classically bhakti is of 9 types also called 'navadha bhakti'. Depending upon the state of mind every one can categorise differently. I regard bhakti of Hanuman as the first out of all bhaktis, 'bhooto na bhavishyti', ie it never happend in the past not will happen in the future. Its nearest is bhakti of devrishi Narad.
