Barring Pakistan, India is neither \"friendly\" or \"unfriendly\" but is just an incompetent regional partner, so instead of looking to us, our neighbours end up looking towards other nations like China mainly. Speaking of \"expansionism\" China didn\'t send troops to Bangladesh, we did. And it was ***I***PKF not CPKF in Sri Lanka. Yet though, when say- Sri Lanka or Bangladesh or Myanmar wants a trade pact, oir a resource pact- we end up delaying just as we do in Tashildar / RTO office. Citizens of the land (Indians) are forced to duke it out w/ our official incompetence in time, but foreign nations don\'t have to, and we need to realize that. And the way we handled Nepal is disgraceful. At one point, when Maoists were on the verge of securing the nation via armed revolt, India *AGREED* that Maoists should peacefully b resettled in Army. And just last week, we change our stance and state \"professionalism (LOL)\" of Ar ...more

It\'s a good question! I think as India becomes a leader in its own right - as a superpower, others tend to become jealous and become sour grapes. So, like a hawk, which stands out of the crowd by flying high, cannot but be the envy of many a nation, even the neighbouring ones. Its a healthy \"unfriendliness\" that India has to grow through to be true to her destiny. Hence nothing to do with a weak foreign policy. On the contrary, its a non-aggressive, respectable but assertive policy.

With all our faults, we are the only functioning democracy, in this region. Our neighbours are jealous of our robust democratic institutions and our economic growth, in spite of the hurdles of hostility from Pakistan and China. We have nurtured our nation in the right direction and spirit, though we should not get complascent.

We are friendly to all, and all other nations are jealous and can not accept our growth rate. This is true asian mentality.
