It is a fact that the event did take place.
But today, five thousand years later, it is difficult to say as to how much colour has been added to its narration.
That is true for all historical events connected with religion and faith

That answer is not as flippant as it may first seem, since I assume that what you are really asking is how does science fiction differ from other genres, especially its closest sibling fantasy?
