Sai Ram. Intel Atom processors are light duty processors with lesser power consumption used for netbooks. They are not better than the dual core or core duo or quad core processors used in notebooks, laptops and desktops. Their main advantage is lower power consumption resulting in a lighter netbook with better standby time. The netbooks are ok for mails, net surfing, chat etc. and not for heavy gaming.

Atom Processor are of ultra-low-voltage x86 and x86-64 CPUs (or microprocessors) from Intel. Embedded application such as robotics and Mobile Internet devices and many more. Intel's new dual core Atom processor aims to power the next generation of netbooks. Intel Atom is perfect for either for Laptop or Netbooks because of its size and energy consumption.
Intel Atom is a low-powered processor with a single core. Its prime advantage is that it uses less power than the Core 2 Duo chip that will enhances battery life. It is normally found in Netbooks as well as small form factor desktops.
Pros and Cons of Intel Atom Processor:
Pros:
-small size and weight- very handy.
-battery life up to 8hrs
Cons:
-no optical drive (too small to accommodate a DVD drive but you are free to buy an external USB DVD-RW drive)
-not powerful (RAM upgrade to 2GB to speed things up a bit is recommended)
-Windows 7 Starter has a limited functionality but will do basic things (net, music, video) well.
