Main advantage of semi permeable membrane is in urinary system of the man.
Actually these membrane absorbs only salt, urine and waste material.
Urinary tubes are made up from these membrane. tubes only permits the salt(Na and Cl) and urine from water surrounded to it. So the only non usefull content get seprated.

A semipermeable membrane, also termed a selectively-permeable membrane, a partially-permeable membrane or a differentially-permeable membrane, is a membrane that will allow certain molecules or ions to pass through it by diffusion and occasionally specialized "facilitated diffusion." The rate of passage depends on the pressure, concentration, and temperature of the molecules or solutes on either side, as well as the permeability of the membrane to each solute. Depending on the membrane and the solute, permeability may depend on solute size, solubility, properties, or chemistry. An example of a semi-permeable membrane is the lipid bilayer, on which is based the plasma membrane that surrounds all biological cells. Many natural and synthetic materials thicker than a membrane are also semipermeable. An example of this is the thin film on the inside of an egg.

One example of a semipermeable membrane is a phospholipid bilayer, a group of phospholipids (consisting of a phosphate head and t ...more

Semi permeable membrane made of animal skin are mainly used to control the flow to one side.. it is also used in the reverse osmosis and thus to purify salt water .here the salt water and pure water are fed into 2 compartments separated by a semi permeable membrane.so the water molecules from the salt water moves to the pure water compartment through the membrane.these are selective due to various particle size of various solutes...

A semipermeable membrane suitable for the use in an artificial kidney of the filtration type is produced by preparing a solution of cellulose acetate in a solvent mixture consisting essentially of a solvent for cellulose acetate and a swelling agent and spreading said solvent on a substrate, the solvent being a mixture of dimethylformamide and acetone, the swelling agent being a mixture of cyclohexanone and wate !! Membranes are so important to life that all of cellular metabolism may legitimately be divided ... Semipermeable cell membrane. Selective holes or gates!!gg
