No it is actually bad for the eyes if used for a prolonged time. The constant exposure and touch with the cornea can at times cause irritation and drying up. Specs are the best if looks aint too much of an issue. Besides today its stylish to sport a glass.

I am using contact lens from 1992. I am very much comfortable with lens and no problem at all. I have very high minus power (-12/-13). After wearing contact lens my power is now constant. Even now I can not use my high power spec for more than 2 h. It started to headache. Initially I faced lot of problems. But after the supervision of good eye specialist (last 12 years I am going to this doctor once in a year) and Bausch and Lomb soft contact lenses I don't have any problem. usually I use contact lens for 8-10 hours every day and I also use Genteal eye drops (lubricant) once or twice in a day. I maintained all the precautions what doctor has advised me. Likely, once in every one year I go to my doctor for chek up, change my contact lens, wash properly with 'Complete' or Renu solution and keep the lens contact with the solution overnight, before wearing or removing lens I wash my hand properly, during travel by bus or two wheeler I wear a photochromatic zero power spec to protect my ...more

There are lot of research done on the same question, and most of the reports say Contact Lenses when used for a longer period continously will spoil the cornea. It starts with dryness and itchiness then the cornea is slowly affected. The conventional spectacles are always better when compared to this. There have been articles and cases on few top notch contact lens lotion company and recently they have even done a product call-back. Few tips for contact lens users, while going to sleep, take off your lenses and secure it with new lotion. Use only recommended lotions well within Expiry period. Don't over use your contact lenses after specified date. Eat vitamin A and convert to Spectacles are eye correction surgeries as soon as possible.
Always consult your Doctor, Optician before doing anything. Know the facts in a forum, decision is with you.... All the best.

There is no problem in using contact lenses ;provided it is used properly.
My husband has been using contact lenses right from 1976 i.e. for past 32 years.
He removes the lenses in the night ( wears only for 12 hours daily.)

Contact Lens are medically safe for eyes if users wear properly, clean lens regularly and avoid wearing them during night sleepings. Moreover, they should not wear contact lens after their expiry date/time depends on environment pollution. Spectacles are fine .

Contact lenses are good as an addition to your spectacles and can be worn on planned outings, working hours, attending parties etc since the maximum duration is around 12hrs for comfortable wear. However it cannot replace glasses as the sole refractive correction since in an emergency, glasses provide immediate vision as also Vision for a period beyond contact lens wear.
If your Contact lenses are dispensed scientifically by a trained practitioner, you can enjoy contact lenses, however most of the problems associated with contact lenses are due to improper fitting, inadequate training, or contact lens overuse/abuse which can be prevented by a good practitioner. Complications like allergy, Dry eye, Warpage do occur, however when managed well, pose no threat to Vision and you can enjoy Contact lens wear. Some serious Vision threatening complications like Aspergillus Keratitis may occur especially when patients use tap water for cleaning their lenses, However If one maintains proper hyg ...more
