Dont kill snakes

Killing rats with rat poison is no solution. Only way is to breed species which are rats natural predators. Foxes, wolves and eagles have been deployed in the northern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to help contain an outbreak of plains rats. The rat populations in areas where the foxes make their homes are much smaller than in other areas. An eagle can eat about 10 rats a day on average. Indian Government also must employ similar tactics to get rid of rat population. Sadly, in India people think that Lord Ganesha rides on rat therefore it is sin to kill a rat.

The best way to treat a rat problem is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Rats like to hide in piles of wood or junk on your property. Keep all woodpiles raised up off the ground at least two feet and remove junk and garbage piles from every area of your yard. Keep bushes around your home from growing too close to the house to eliminate hiding places for rats. Be sure to keep any pet food indoors and dont use birdfeeders. Keep lids on all outside garbage cans. Make sure to seal any openings or holes around the foundation of your home and trim back all tree branches as rats will drop down onto your roof from overhanging limbs.

If the rats have already found their way into your home you want to get them out as quickly as possible.
