The fact is that what she did was wrong and was in no way concerned with diplomatic immunity and if she has been expelled then US officials are not wrong.
By taking a moral high ground on the wrong issue the Indian govt is erring which could hurt the good bilateral relations between the two countries.

My reading is that it was forced to act tough due to the IFS officer's father, who is also an ex IAS officer
