Write a proposal for your book. A proposal contains a detailed synopsis of your work, two or three chapters of your book and the author profile. Now pitch your book to publishers either yourself or through a literary agent. Having a literary agent does give you an edge because he/she knows the market very well and can help you get a good price for your book. If accepted, the publisher will get in touch with you. A contract is drawn with you and decisions are made to find out if you will hold the media rights, film rights( in case something of that nature develops in future) and international rights to the book or not. Acceptance for publication of books is rare! If it is poetry book it can be published in websites like poemhunter.com, boloji.com, etc. If it is nonfiction book the topics can be published as articles in websites like boloji.com. If it is novel you have to approach publlishers like Rupa & Co, Jaico, etc. Others details you can get once you have touch with the publishers by corresponces with them.
