Absolutely no. It is a well know fact that the lower is the Status ... the bigger is the Ego. Even in ancient thought it was said that the lower the caste ... the bigger is the Ego (aham).
So, EGO is Inversely proportional to the Status of a person.
A Peon's or a Clerk's Ego is much bigger than the Officer's ... and a lower Officer's is from the Higher Officer's.

As a thumb rule, yes the statement is more of less true.......but there are always exceptions to the rule
