In the past watches had to be winded every day. They used to also slow down considerably over 24 hrs time gap so tuning was necessary. Today all the watches are electronically operated. They neither require winding up nor adjusted on a daily basis. Today people can set the time according to their requirement. If they are TV serial addict then they can set their watch according to the time as displayed on their favorite TV Channel, If they don't want to be late to work then it makes better sense to synchronize their watch according to their office clock, if they have to communicate then according to the railway station etc.
