New Delhi: As they say all good things come to an end, in this case its the end of one of the oldest and grand cinema halls of its time before the advent of multiplexes; yes we are talking about Chanakya cinema.
A court battle was being fought between NDMC and the owners of Chanakya for quite some time, on Friday the Supreme Court ruled in favor of NDMC thus paving the way for demolishing the Chanakya hall. The NDMC plans to build a multiplex at the same site.
The ruling came after five years, after the NDMC served a notice on the owners to vacate the premises; NDMC has leased the premises to Chanakya in 1971. The owners of Chanakya approached the high court, on 30th Aug. 2005, the high court ruled on favor of NDMC directing the management of Chanakya to vacate by December 31. Subsequently the Chanakya management went to Supreme Court, where the ruling of High Court was upheld.

Chanakya was born with a complete set of teeth, a sign that he would become king, which is inappropriate for a Brahmin like Chanakya. Chakya's teeth were therefore broken and it was prophesied that he will rule through another.
The Nanda King throws Chnakya out of his court, prompting Chnakya to swear revenge.
Chnakya searches for one worthy for him to rule through. Chnakya encounters a young Chandragupta Maurya who is a born leader even as a child.
Chnakya's initial attempt to overthrow Nanda fails, whereupon he comes across a mother scolding her child for burning himself by eating from the middle of a bun or bowl of porridge rather than the cooler edge. Chakya realizes his initial strategic error and, instead of attacking the heart of Nanda territory, slowly chips away at its edges.
Chnakya changed his alliance with the mountain king Parvata due to his obstinacy and non-adherence to the principles of the treaty as agreed.
