As Kanti Bajpai said All fascisms (and other forms of authoritarianism) have operated in the name of the people and have used the sledgehammer of the people to stifle dissent. Democracy is not just about numbers, had it been the case, there would not have been any difference between democracy and Majoritarianism.

Democracy is also about rule of law and human rights of all its citizens. BJP and Modi is confusing people by their repeated assertions that Modi is popularly elected chief minister of state. His popularity cant wash away his sins and nor could it be a justification for his politics (Bal Thackery was also popular in his state, that doesnt mean his politics was just). Secularism is not about appeasement as has been widely propagated by Sangh brigade. There have been a few incidents by Congress which are often cited like Shahbano, Imrana, Rushdie cases etc which Congress indeed handled badly and must be opposed. But BJP has used them to propagate a false sense of fear amongs ...more

There are two streams of thought which polarize our Indian society. (1) Those who have faith and respect for the traditional Indian values (2) Those who hate them and favour the values of hatred and intolerance of invaders
The first kind are condemned as communalist while the second call them self secular
The fact is that India is a secular country only because of the liberal values of the first category of people. Had the first kind not been in majority then this country would have been taken over by religious bigots long back and India would have become another terrorist headache for the world
If One talks abt development people try to paint it in saffron ? For the simple reason that they are scared of losing power.

The definition of secularism for the Indian politicians and secularists is as following : -

Denounce the HINDUS and SANATAN culture as far as U can....
Break the Temple, stop the religious get-togethers, and insult the Sadhus & HINDU religious prophets
Support the illegitimate demands of the ppl of other religions who propagate themselves to be Minorities
Advocate for reservation in their favour....
Attribute every terrorist activities lunched by those communities as their freedom fight....and so on....

The politicians who follow the vote bank politics and want to appear to be "SECULAR" want to creat an awe about Modi, so that they can channelise the votes of the minority community. these politicians want to instill fear into the minds of the minorities by demonising Modi. I think

Many people dies in postgodra riots. those responsible for godhra received full force of law and order and were punished according to rule of law. However those died later were denied any sympathy and few still justify their death.such thing used to happen all time in India but it was unusual to take pride of such things.

No, secularism means equi-distance from and equal-respect all religions, castes etc. The State has nothing to do with non-State matters !

If modi become pm, then there is possibility he may stick to pm seat the way he is doing in gujarath . congress is rooted out in gujarath, and no chance for other small parties in gujarath.

so small parties are afraid that they may loose their bases if they make modi pm
