Earle Dickson got married to Josephine Frances Knight in 1917. His new wife, Josephine, had a habit of nicking her fingers while working in the kitchen. Dickson rolled a bit of gauze and stuck it to a tape and the band-aid was born. The idea eventually proved successful and Dickson, who was working for Johnson & Johnson, was made the vice president of the company.
