Maruti plans to phase out the Maruti 800 model and make the Alto, which is more well equipped and more aethetically designed, the entry level car. I think, the decision of maruti to phase out the first entry model is justified because in sales volumes, alto is far ahead of Maruti 800. This shows that people are prepared to fork our a few thousands more to get a better looking and better equi.pped model. And it is the common man who have made Alto popular than the earlier Maruti 800. I dont forsee any problem on this account.

Switching over to Maruti 800 has been a luxury for most common man and middle grade executive as an entry car who could hardly manage out of their income. It is observed that entry car is also bought by raising bank credit. It being phased out, may prevent, car owning would remain a dream for many a one, also the existing millions of car will be face the scarcity of spare parts.
