Q.
"India plans to open up trade in opiate-based pharmaceuticals to private players, with the aim of enriching foreign exchange coffers while also tackling drug trafficking."
This deceptive theory of the Govt. is to regulate the Drugs trade into Corporate farming. North India will be the Hub of Opium cultivator just like Afghanistan.. This will make India a FAILED STATE..

It seems nobody who has answered this QN so far is not aware of what opium based drugs are!
It is a set of drugs ESSENTIAL for giving SOLACE to patients with diseases that are highly painful like certain types of cancer, brain tumors etc in Palliative care units. No other drugs available are as effective and with less side effects as this genre of drugs. These drugs are now mostly imported and highly priced. I cant see why this shud not be produced locally under controlled environment. We cud export it too.
Opium based medicines are part of ANCIENT AYURVEDA too. Such medicines are being produced and sold locally even now. It has been there for 100s of years. We still have not become Afghanistan.
I really feel sorry for the Qnr, deliberately trying to mislead the members of the forum with political motive in mind.

Harvesting of Opium is not allowed in any part of India and there are no chances that it will be legalized in future as well.
