Small and medium size rivers are called river ( she Female)
Ganga Brahmaputra Sindhu Nile called The Ganges means male for large river

I have no idea. This is first I'm ever hearing. In classical and mythical literature we always hear that a river is being addressed as a female as per grammar of the language. But by the characteristics of it I don't know how to distinguish and demarcate a river as male or female.
