Unfortunately, we do not have a proper centralised coaching body. The National Institute of Sports, in Patiala, is mired in corruption. We do not have adequate facilities for our sportsmen, for coaching, day to day living and ensuring nutritious food.
Earlier, our Army gave us excellent atheletes like Milkha Singh and Makhan Singh, who were among the most junior rank in the army. But they had no scope for the future. It was for this reason that Milkha Singh's son, Jeev Milkha Singh took up proffessional golf, that is more lucrative.
