Lok Sabha is equivalent of the Hose of Commons and Rajya Sabha as the House of Elders as Lok Sabha houses directly elected members (by the citizens) and Rajya Sabha houses nominated members (by the elected members).

Because the mambers of lokshava r elected by people but Rajya shava members r elected by elected representatives.
