"If you are an economics student you have a wide range of options available to you. You can specialize in statistics, econometrics, actuarial economics. Opportunities abound for you in investment banks, brokerage services and IT firms. You can also develop your skills in stuff like macro and micro economics. Financial publications will absorb you if you have statistical and software skills Some thorough knowledge of simple software like excel spreadsheet will help you. If you specialize in stuff like OPENSTAT , it might help you" .
In Chennai , more students are opting for B.A. in economics than they do for the more upmarket B.Com. This is the case in Madras school of economics and Loyola College. Sectors like insurance and finance require people trained in statistics , economics and econometrics. You can do a P.G. degree or specialisation in these subjects.
