Actually it started few days back to 17th
Many times x_____x hands tried to curtail some of the programs & forced to focus on few because of this only Prasar Bharti established (Still they have some problem) - Speaker Meira Kumar's father Babu Jagjivan ram is best example
But undoubtedly joining hands with UGC contributed much to education and research & DD is still reaching & viewed in rural areas & less in urban
An autonomous govt. body could not get BCCI's (like the same) sponsorship having a sports channel
(Narottam Puri is to be remembered for his statistics on his finger tips (tongue tip?) & Akash lal for his..,)

Wish it will comeback & give a tough competition to pvt. channels
DD had the record of largest viewerships of many programms like Buniyaad, Humlog, Mahabharat, Ramayan
(and nation freezes during those days)

Major saab why you have forgotten to put a Q on 'first classical language of India accepted this day' it was 17/09/2004

Ofcourse YES, we should pray for the long existence and continuous progress of Doordarshan with which many fond memories of my childhood is associated with. Even now Doordarshan has its own unique place and is beyond competition.
I feel people used to enjoy more those days, when less programmes were there on Doordarshan than now when more programmes are there but very less enjoyment.
Our enjoyment of those days seems to have been lost in crowd of stupid channels many of which does not deserve to be on Air..........

Doordarshan had a modest beginning with the experimental telecast starting in Delhi on 15 September 1959 with a small transmitter and a makeshift studio. The regular daily transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio. The television service was extended to Bombay and Amritsar in 1972. Till 1975, seven Indian cities had television service and Doordarshan remained the only television channel in India. Television services were separated from radio in 1976. Each office of All India Radio and Doordarshan were placed under the management of two separate Director Generals in New Delhi. Finally Doordarshan as a National Broadcaster came into existence. Then how do they say it has completed 50 years, will someone enlighten me.
