In Muktasar, Punjab, a girl Sukhdeep Kaur stopped a Barat and refused to let it proceed to the brides village, because the bridegroom, Jaymal Singh, and she were lovers since 3 years and she wanted to marry him. Ultimately the panchayat agreed to this and thus Sukhdeep Kaur got her lover on the eve of St. Valentines day. The bridegroom's younger brother was sent to marry the bride which was arranged for Jaymal Singh earlier.

I have not yet read the news item, but what is evidently noticeable is why Jaymal Singh, who was supposedly in love with Sukhdeep Kaur was willing to marry another girl. Were there any compulsions put on him and if yes why did not he have the courage to fight them so that he could marry his love? And if there were no compulsions and pressures upon him, then can his love with Sukhdeep Kaur be called as true love. I hope all these issues are resolved amicably and these two are able to lead a happy married life. What is good about this whole affair is that the girl with whom he was going to marry has not been left high and dry because of this love affair and married off with his brother.
