Q.

In the recently concluded Chennai cricket test man of the match award should have gone to Strauss who made centuries in both the Innings and not any one else. This award has to encourage cricketers who have perfomed better than others irrespective of who won the test. Shewag lost his first innings for 9 runs. Just because he took the risk of hitting 83 in 2nd innings it cannot be said he is a better cricketer.

If Sehwag had not set the pace India would at best have played for the draw.MAN of the MATCH goes to the person who sets the trend of the outcome of the match and not to the best player of the match.

Sehwag not only scroed 83, he also brought with him a positive frame of mind to the Indian innings that led to India's victory. He is the true match winner and richly deserves the man of the match award.

Man of the MATCH goes to match winners....your mentioning consistency pefrormance- those go into the cricket rankings, man of the series, etc., criterion. MoM (Man of the match) is reserved for match winners. In that criterion, losing side is at a disadvantage, unless they do something extraordinary like break a record.
