Media is only after TRP and it has nothing to do whatsoever with the sanctity of our Constitution. Even if it had not the media`s creating chaos on the name of alarming the viewers, the Election Commission would have acted any way as it did act in accordance with the provisions in law and prevented Mr.Varun Gandhi from contesting the election. The Code of Conduct invariably points at the behavior of probable candidature and therefore media or no media, a single note from the local observer is suffice to make authority of EC to check the consequences of a particular speech, write up, comment, as whether it is liable to disturb the harmony in the society on the name of religion. Media and concerned personnel are hungry on any account. Yesterday it was fabricated Sting Operation, today it is Varun, and tomorrow may be Shahrukh v/s Sunil. It has no need to show any concern of principle like whether to check the probable consequences. If Star News is running after a scoop, then Aaj Tak is t ...more

What\'s sad about this whole thing is that a moron was given too much undue importance.... And in terms of \"communalism & hate\" I can\'t blame Varun Gandhi alone because almost 99.5% of all Indian homes are....communal (ex: VERY few marry outside their own caste even...if that\'s not communal, what is) :D I don\'t hate Varun for the speech he gave, considering that\'s how the majority of us are (not in any religion but in ALL religions)...but still, the media shouldn\'t have given a rolls royce welcome to a braindead moron.

You stated it correct! The media have to blamed for making villians in to heroes overnight whatever act he/she commits. The sensational part is what the press wants to project and the emerging generation finds it worth emulating. Our country is a pluralistic society and all of us born in this country should not be allowed to be segregated in the name of caste, creed, race ,language or religion.Varun\'s speech can only cater to some sick minds baying for the blood of innocents in this country.A beautiful question and enjoyed answering it too.

I think the media made a mess of this. They have really blown it out of proportion. To a large extent they should take the blame for this sad episode.

Gone are the days when there was no ELECTRONIC media so any speech could not be considered hate speech without EVIDENCE. iT WOULD HAVE DIED a natural death then but not in TODAY\'S ROLE played by the Media at every large gathering of POLITICIANS giving out fiery speeches not compatible to the general public. The coverage by many a NEWS channel STOPPED THE BUCK! Watch NDTV for debates on this issue!
