Q.

Whether it is clemency for Rajiv Gandhi killers or Afzal guru or Bhullar; the motive behind this 'clemency' is same -- vote bank politics. The passing of resolution by Tamil Nadu assembly seeking clemency for killers of Rajiv Gandhi has set a wrong precedent. Isn't it astounding that some of our leaders want clemency for the terrorists/killers?

It is true that political parties are politicising the death sentences of convicts like Afzal Guru, Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and the masterminds of Rajiv Gandhis assassination. Vote bank politics has no doubt undermined the authority of our judicial system. A certain period should be drawn for such cases and should be sorted out in that time frame. This trend of vote bank politics is a stumbling block in the path of progress hence needs to be blo ...more

If you call it Vote Bank policy that means a majority of voters in a region wants that and politicians are nothing but the representative of the people and s/he has to listen to what people want in that particular constituency.
Earlier also, people have been supporting robbers and killers like Robin Hood who will rob rich and will part with some riches with the poor who started adoring him. Same happenned with Veerappan as he was liked by the people in his vicinity. You will recall that Satwant Singh who killed Indira Gandhi and was later hanged is revered by sikhs and his portrait is displayed in the Golden Temple Museum at Amritsar. Shaheed-e-azam Bhagat Singh too was the culprit of a murder and hanged, whom each and every Indian revers today. Afzal Guru, Bhullar and Rajiv Killers.... derived the same inspiration from Bhagat Singh for their so called cause of Kashmir, Khalistan and Tamil Eilam.
So there are people who love them despite their doing acts of murder and terrorism and t ...more
