Obviously, it has got to be Dhoni because of the reasons I will elaborate now. Ashwin bowled beautifully in the first innings on a slightly helpful pitch on the first day and picked seven wickets. However, the problem was he did not enough support from the other two spinners. Having won the toss Australia batted on the first day in the bast batting conditions as the moisture in the pitch would slowly evaporate due to the extreme heat conditions of Chennai and the wicket would deteriorate by each day, more dusty and scruffy making batting more and more difficult. Thus the score of Australia of 380 was a good score and batting would have been very difficult in the fourth innings. Dhoni came in to bat after India had lost Sachin and the Indian score was about 200, still 180 odd runs behind the Aussie score along with Virat he was the last Indian specialist batsmen so his coming good was vital. Despite having scored so many runs in one days, he had not performed well with the bat in Tests
