No, First of all mutual funds are Equity as well as debt based. Equity based mutual funds are for those people who do not have the understanding and knowledge of direct equity trading. It is considered as the best asset for long term investors.

Absolutely i think mutual funds generally give lesser gains.but there r a few that generally beat the index.
