Australia's Highway 1 is the longest national highway in the world at over 20,000 km and runs almost the entire way around the country !!

The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads measuring about 47,958 kilometers (29,800 miles) in total length.

According to Guinness World Records, the Pan-American Highway is the world's longest "motorable road". However, because of the Darin Gap, it is not possible to cross between South America and Central America by traditional motor vehicle.

Major highways are often named and numbered by the governments that typically develop and maintain them. Australia's Highway is the longest national highway in the world at over 14,500 km (9,000 miles) and runs almost the entire way around the continent.
