Q.

Why do we all aspire to go and send our children to a foreign country???
Why the very thought of going to USA make us excited/joyous? Why people are looked upon with awe & respect when they are back from any foreign country? Why their degree is considered more valuable? Is MONEY the main factor here?

Yes. Money is the prime factor. The minimum wages in USA or UK is so attractive people tend to go there seeking their fortune. In the USA the wages payable for a house keeper is around Rs 115000/00 in Indian rupee per month and in the UK it is around Rs 7.75 per year . And even after deducting the high cost of expenses a person can send around a minimum of Rs 3 lakhs to his home in India. In India house keepers, nurses ,plumbers, electricians and other such professionals are paid so poorly , if comes an opportunity they will go there at any cost. I have known one girl who has completed the +2 level and very poor to continue her studies. But fortunately an offer came to her to work as an in house house keeper from USA and she crabbed the opportunity and after 3 years quit the job and went on to become a nursing graduate with the money saved and part time working and at 28 became a qualified nurse with a salary of over 2 lakh Indian rupees and now she has married an doctor here and went ...more

In the Punjab, there are agents in almost every village, who cater to this demand.
The main reason there, is the fragmentation of the limited land. The villagersjust sell their land and take a chance to go to the prosperous and large countries like, USA, Canada and Australia.
Once there, they take up their ancestral vocation of farming. But their children are well educated there and drift to other professions.
But it is a sad state of affairs. We have not been able to set up a comprehensive education policy affordable to all. Our urban educated also prefer trying their luck abroad first, before applying for a job locally. We have to get over the stigma of poverty and the inherent corruption that runs deep into our system that is eating into the vitals of our economy and country. It will take us a long time to improve economically and curb our balooning population.
Meanwhile this exodus of our people seeking greener pastures, will continue. For employment opportunities and money a ...more

Primary reasons are better opportunities and recognition for talent which are lacking here. It is a well known fact that Indian parents give top priority for their childrens education and they want the best for them and of course the best is not always available to all in a billion strong India. It is the question of availability. If things are not available, then it becomes necessary either to import it or go wherever it is available. Do not try to tell me that everything is available here in India. Read todays newspaper. Chief of Medical Council of India has been arrested by CBI for accepting a bribe of Rs.20 Million for granting a license to start a medical college. Now you know the standards of medical education in India. It applies to a whole lot of engineering colleges as well. Not everybody gets the opportunity to study in IITs & IIMs. The seats are very limited after all those reservations. It is very easy to get emotional and patriotic but can you afford to sweep the sucking r ...more
