They strive to meet ends they crave for basics like food ,clothing, shelter and education so let's help them individually or in groups and donate clothes, dry rations and also take up the responsibility to educate the little ones of the poor as they cannot afford education for them and be a part of the Joy Of Giving Week which is a week - long drive wherein people from all backgrounds step forward and do whatever best they can do for others

Islamic life is a life of the attainment of "Falah" which means, "The furrowing out of latent faculties". A Muslim, therefore, has to continuously strive for progress. a progress controlled by righteousness and illumined by Divine Guidance, a progress grounded in spirituality, a progress balanced and comprehending all aspects of human life: spiritual, mental, moral, aesthetic and physical.Paying tribute to the balanced character of Islam and the progress which it inspires, the famous Orientalist Prof. H. A. R. Gibb says:"Within the Western world, Islam still maintains the balance between exaggerated opposites...For the fullest development of its cultural life, particularly of its spiritual life, Europe cannot do without the forces and capacities which lie within Islamic society." (Whither Islam? p.378).

A God fearing Poor does not have to opt for anything, as the clear choice is Food and Shelter, Prayer is in heart Not in any book or place. and hence he/she need not give up food or shelter for that. He she can still prey while opting for Food.. ;-)

If one is alive then only he/she can go for prayer and gospel. The first basic thing to survive is Food and shelter.
