i heard that the co. has decided to give dividend on 31-05-2010
is there any possibility that i can get the benefit of dividend

Go to www.nseindia.com and check the Record Date for dividend. When you see the details of the stock, at the right hand bottom corner, you will get the dates of Dividend under "Corporate Action Information".

You can check out further information under the two links given at the bottom : 1. Corporate Announcements, 2. Board Meetings.

There are some terms given. The explanation for the same is given below:

Book Closure Dates: Transfer of shares is a continuous process. Shares change hands at a rapid pace every day. So it may not be possible for the companies to find out eligible investors for the corporate benefits. So they fix a date and announce that the investors who are in their records on that date would be eligible for the benefits. They close the share transfer books for a period for this purpose. This period is called Book Closure period. During this period companies after identifying the eligible investors, pass the benefits to depositories which in turn to investors. ...more
