No doubt Dr. Swaminathan is a great Agricultural Scientist , but his contribution towards so-called GREEN REVOLUTION, in India ,is practically negligible. Productions increased only due to inventions of a few HYV of Seeds/Grains/Wheat /Potato/pulses & Rice. None of the inventions were by Dr. Swaminathan or with his collaborations. He was simply advising the improved package of practices.
Literally the so-called GREEN REVOLUTION came from the urge of the farmers. Governmental machineries had very little contribution other than distributing some MINI-KITS. AGRICULTURE, thereafter , tumbled,.Productions & productivity nose-dived during 1990-2008 as compared to advanced countries. This is a real shame for India and yet we claim success in Agriculture and make tall-talks. It is high time we should make a real attempt for a GREEN REVOLUTION.

MR.c.Subramanyam, the then minister of agriculture is credited with making pioneer efforts in bringing MEXICAN WHEAT SEED developped under the leadership of Dr.Borlaug through the scientific and technical support of Dr. MS Swaminathan, who was director of the Indian Agricutural Research Institute, New Delhi. It has remained for the people to call either of them 'father' of the Indian Green Revolution in want of any formal official title.
