Insomnia can be a sympton of another condition, such as depression and a sufferer may require counselling to get to the cause of the depression. Other advice to a sufferer would be to go to bed and get up at the same time everyday, regardless of how tired you feel and not catnap in the day. To avoid caffeine containing drinks such as tea, coffee and cola after 6pm. To make sure the bedroom is not too hot or cold. Then if they cant sleep to get up after half an hour and do something else until you are tired, then go back to bed. There is obviously drug therapy available, anti depressants and sleeping tablets, but certainly insomnia is a difficult thing to cure once the sufferer is set in a pattern - professional help will be needed.

Insomnia in itself is not a disease, but can be the symptom of one or more disorders, both medical or psychological Insomnia can be noticed in all elderly people due to changes in a multitude of ohysiological parameters Reason for lack of sleep may be one or more of any of the following like 1 medical conditions 2 medications 3 psychiatric disorders 4 poor sleep hygiene Majority of the reasons for sleep apnea may be depression or medication or both When medication is considered necessary, the physician prescribes a low-dose sedating antidepressant But treatment of chronic insomnia requires a more directed approach for its identification, cause and treatment
