When soneone forgets about the world and and gets absorbed in his studies -he doesnt care about his look and attire - this is how they bear long beard . Its not necessary that he must be a baba , a scienstist may have long beard ,an artist and a hermit too may have !

Olden days monks rarely had time to spare for a daily shave. Moreover, not shaving and not cutting hair was to conserve energy. When cut, for the re-growth of hair, extra energy is required. Since monks were having strict food discipline, conserving energy was a requirement. These facts cannot be compared to present day babas since they have both time and money.
