First, every experience is different.You need to do what your comfortable doing, if you do meet him, I definately suggest a public place, and let one or more of your friends know where your going, just to be safe.
Trust your instincts, do you feel like you know this guy well enough to trust him and such. If you do go to meet him, I would definately go in with an open mind, expectations can kill a first meeting, perhaps you can get a picture of him via online first, so you arent to suprised.
