The Motorola 68000 is a sixteen or 32-bit complex instruction set computer (CISC) microprocessor core. It was designed and marketed by Freescale Semiconductor (which was formerly known as Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector) and introduced in the year 1979. It is the first member of the successful 32-bit m68k family of microprocessors. It is generally forward compatible. The Motorola 68000 architecture is still in use.
