Q.

Do you think that maternity leave should be extended to 2 years from the present 45 days? A two year old child is toilet trained, can walk and also eat proper meals. So when the mother resumes her job her child won't be so helpless?

There is no argument to the fact that the maternity leave will have to be extended beyond 45 days. It is just too little. It is really not possible to prescribe an upper limit. But first, it has to be recognized by the government and public sector units. The time can be doubled, and the government can subsidize their own sector to the extent of the extension beyond 45 days, to at least 90 to start with. It is the whole nation that will gain through a better next generation. Only a government legislation can do that, But if generally prescribed and legislated, presently, it may go against women getting employment at all. As such, newly married or young and married women are sometimes sidelined by many companies and even multinationals owing to this point. After all, they are only interested in the money.

This is where the usually absentee parent, the father, has to do his bit. It is alright to put in long working hours if he is the only breadwinner of the family for whatever be th ...more

See, we can't satisfy ourself with the previlage we are having......just simple ex. if a lady will join the org. after the training every thing , she will ask for the maternity leave .....ok , if we will think for 2yrs , it is granted and again after 6 month they will plan for one more kid and will seek the leave for again 2years....is that justified?....my point is , ladies should concentrate more for the family devlopment & managment always ,and husband should think for the earning..... your point is right but what about the company's situation and if such 5cases will happen in a organisation than think the situation.......and as per me upto 3yrs the child should be in the direct supervision of mother than only they will learn the family culture and behaviour............the one of the reason why kids are neglecting their parent in the old age.....because we are neglecting them in their childhood......the proper affection, guidence they are not getting due to the parents job and headi ...more

Now u want North Korean subsidies & South Korean economic prosperity . THat's some heavy core wishful thinking I gotta say lol. Ain't happening :) Not on the mortal coil at least. Capitalist societies- in terms of WORK- focus on MARGINAL productivity, and their SOcialist counterparts focus on - TOTAL productivity. So in context of the former, your proposal will get shot down most likely because capitalist firms seek to extract most labour per unit time, thus keeping labour costs optimally streamlined.

Yes, and after the child is toilet trained, can walk and also eat proper meals they should be asked to work extra until they retire to make up for the lost time.

Why not 20 years? If you cant manage the two, quit one. Why you have to ask, request or beg some one for favours.

Ms. Joyo this type of decision should be taken by individuals.....................Any Law or 'Should be' can't be imposed....

In india, at this Lavish & consumer driven societies (specially in metropolitan cities), many mothers are opting to join office as soon as possible. Many professional mothers with upcoming branches like software, marketing...are not wanting to be obsolete by sitting 2 years at home to upbring their child.......

Many women at our soceity are supporting their family by their job......many of them are the single source of earning...in this circumstances, they can't extend their leave upto 2 years.....

Now, if at all, question of 'being with the child' comes then in my opinion, it should be upto 12th class of that child or at least upto those days when that child going to school on regular basis.

I know many mothers are opting to join the same school because of their child......

Now, question of helplessness comes as per individual human mind......I k ...more
