Mujahid means he who is involved in Jihad. In Arabic Grammer 'Mu' is prefixed to change the meaning of a word in such a way that it retains the meaning but denotes invlovement in that meaning of some one or some thing. For example:-
Muhaajir. One who flees from one place to another i.e. Hijrat. So, Mu+ Hijrat = Muhaajir
Qabl means in front or saamne. So Mu+Kabl = muqabil or muqabila.
One who is involved in thanks is Mu+shukar = Mashkoor.
Similarly Mu+jihad = Mujahid.
