Well, before 1947 India was never inntegrated or united, neither geographically, nor demographically, nor politically... the main reason why India was an easy prey to all the invaders from the west is that the small little kingdoms , thousands of them, were always fighting ewach other and inviting invaders to defeat the other kings... Except a very few instances - Ashoka, Harshavardhana, Akbar and Aurangzeb, no other ruler could bring India under one rule, ever... So it is a very highly difficult task to keep Indians together... It is good that our democratically elected Government is trying to bring India under one political control. And has been successful so far.
