Less ornaments (enough to wear) should be given to the brides. Instead of gold, money can be given as fixed deposits.

Still affluent people are affording it and the middle-class finding it difficult but aim to never exceed the amount specified as the total of your budget. If you overspend on one item in it, another item has to take a cut to even it back again. This means being prepared to be flexible and to prioritize the big spends that really matter and to make do or die on the things that are less important or even frivolous wastes of money. Try not to let friends and family overwhelm you with all of their opinions and advice. Remember this is your day...!

Gold should not be made more important than
a sacred relationship of marriage.
One should live within ones means
and not go overboard for one unaffordable item.
