PSU issues rarely generate that kind of an ethusiasm these days as was the case in the earlier period of 2001-2004. The recent NHPC issue is a typical example where the stock has struggled to even maintain the issue price and is now quoting almost 10% its lower price.
Should one go for NTPC issue?
Unless some one is a long term investor and doesn't care much about what is the price now, they may. Otherwise, No. The stock has been on a downward trend for the past 21 trading sessions, coming down from the high of 241 traded on Dec 31st.
Things to consider:
Is it a high profile momentum stock? - No, though it is in the NIFTY, it is not a favoured stock.
