In my opinion, "Intelligent" things e.g. homes, cars, offices, devices, etc wud be next big thing....
Intelligent homes, cars are slowly making way....but I feel they are still not truly Intelligent......

use motion censors...presence sensors, light/sound detectors wud tremendously increases...also making such devices communicate with each other would bring true value or a solution....

The cars with the satillite directions in them. Also, hopefully cars that are geared towards safety and are not made to break down and screw over the consumer.

Hopefully there will also be a push to force corporations to treat the earth better and stop torturing animals and third world countries.

Hopefully the essentials in five years will include medical advances through nanotechnology, stem cell research and applications, and a sharing of knowledge not only between research institutes in individual countries, but also globally.

Technology in terms of communication has jumped in multifarious ways in the past five years. One could never have imagined holding a mobile phone in hand and do banking including funds transfer sitting in your place. The mobile also serves as audio, video, camera, video recorder, alarm, clock, projector, video games and what not. Amazing. Next step will be I think doing business only with PCs and mobiles and without many persons involved. Hardly few persons may have to be employed.
