An average human needs 8 -10 hours of sleep but it may vary. Some people feel fresh even after 5 hours of sleep. Its the quality of sleep( how deep it is) which matters not the quantity( no. of hours of sleep).

Average 6 to 8 hrs sleep is recommemded for humans, but if a person has 6 hrs sleep also and able to function properly then it is adequate. Sleep of less than 6 hrs per day will adversely affect the health.
