Six-year-old Musheer Khan, the youngest player in the 114-year-old Giles Shield inter-school cricket tournament, made sure he had a memorable debut, spinning Anjuman-I-Islam Allana (CST) to victory by an innings and 140 runs against Shailendra Education (Dahisar) at the Cross Maidan on Wednesday.
The diminutive kid, competing in a tournament meant for under-14 boys, returned astonishing figures of 6-11 as Anjuman bundled out Shailendra for 65 after posting 233.
An all-rounder, who bowls left-arm spin, Musheer is the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan, who had scored 438 in a Harris Shield game two years ago.
Musheer's sensational debut has created a bit of a debate in the local cricketing circles, since the Giles Shield rules permit a youngster to play in the tournament for only three years, which means that by the time Musheer is nine, he would not be eligible to take part in it.
