Q.

Tata's Nano Car project is in the interest of the nation. Its also in d interest of the ppl of Singur, including farmers, whose lands have been acquired. As in the case of the Metro project (and several other projects that are in the insterest of d state or the country),land, shops, and houses are taken over by the Govt after a suitable compensation is paid. Singur is no exception. It is our petty minded and selfish politicians who are actually a hurdle in the economic progress of the country. Your views please????

Undoutedly industrial growth is a must for India. But perhaps singrur is a wrong selection. So a lot problem is being faced by the ppl of that area including the govt. of WB. They r the better judge. Still I feel Singrur place is a wrong choice. some ppl says actually the area is capable of producing three crops in a year. The agriculture production will go down as ppl claims. At the sametime we can not ignore industrial production n that to NANO. Perhaps something wrong has been done in the selection of place from all point of view.
Dist Balasore(Orissa) might have been a good choice. Earlier it was declared as Zero industrial area. so some subsidies r there. nearer to SE raily at a radious of 35km only. Many unfertile land r available in some hundreds acres. and it is just 200km or less away from Singrur

Did TATA *have* to take farmland to produce Nano car? What value of real estate does the govt dole out? On newer registered buildings, you get a good rate, but on barebottom land, you'd rather choke on your own feces looking at the compensation rates you get on acquisition deals. And Indian govt & TIME..is also an issue. Six hours, one week, a month tops is OK, but delays in handing over packages run in the years here.

And keep in mind comrade, arable land is NOT replenishable. And TATA merely took that land because it would save him a menial logistic cost- but our nation loses a valuable source of arable land in the process- we can NEVER get it back, even in a million years.

And land arability is sort of an issue in India considering our food security. EVERY inch of farm land counts, and it is too bad a State govt had to bow down to an industrialist's demand for lower logistic costs :(

Why couldn't that factory have been kept in a non arable land?

Yes; Our politicians like Mamata can do anything for little extra mileage. But this is a case of one getting engulfed by the fire created by themselves. Mamata for sure, started and led the protests. But now, she is not able to withdraw because she is surrounded by Naxalites who will not allow her to do so.

As it is, in last 30 years of CPM rule in WB, no development took place. This seals the fate of WB for next 25 years.

God save this country !!

There should be a method in any madness.Singur is a fertaile land raising three corps per year with plenty of water resources. The site was wrongly selected to please the tata's giving a slip to laws, norms, principles and commonsense. There should be long term and shorterm land use plan from the government to take up development activities. If they are wismsical in the name of development the problems like singur are bound to happen.
