Q.

Olympics is around. We haven't been able to make our mark in most of the sports.
China finds their talent as early as age 6 and groom them to earn a olympic medal by the age 14-16 mostly in gymnastics, swimming, diving and other sport.
Do you think career oriented EARLY AGE TALENT must be TAPPED and GROOMED for future olympics ? SHALL IT WORK?
What do you suggest for good show in Olympics and other international competition ?

Talent should be tapped at an early stage.
Nurtured and taken forward with the best possible infrastructure, best training facilities, medical checkcups, and continuous exposure to international events , will make us competitive in the Olympics.

Pick them early or late. However groom them with consistency. And bring a culture change in the country that its not just doctors and engineers that matter in LIFE.

Yes of course. one can't enter the olympics with one day's practice. it's not there is no talent, it's that there's not much motivation, not enough training facilities not to mention too much political interference in everything. and how many of the players really have that burning desire to win is another question. as much as i love cricket and football, i feel others sport needs to be highlighted on tv and in newspapers, not only so we get to know about what's going on but it will motivate them also, that they are being brought to the forefront. training at a young age is very important.

India has not yeilded itself to sports main athletics and in olymics we are able to bag only some medals and mostly become runer -sub,
we must yeild ourselves to olympics and must bag more and more medals,
chinese have a gen talent from their ages , even a 5 year boy would do kungfo, but in india a five year boy drinks milk and sleeps,
our sportmen should have a ultimate aim and proceed bringing lawrels to our own country,
childres must be influnced about sports

We must have an autonomous body for sports and games. Young talents on merit to be trained by this agency and taken care of thier welfare. Suitable infrastructre to be developed for budding talents. Selection of team based on merit will improve our chance of becoming globel sports country

First of all we must have good coaches at the right place. I still remember our Cricket Coach (Ex-Ranji Trophy player) used to compete with us while practising in nets. There are very good players and coaches but they are not in good books of the administrators.

Talent must be recognized at an early age and nurtured & tapped accordingly. If handled carefully it is bound to give good results.

It is very difficult, given the present situation of the attractiveness in the career oriented jobs, big money in sports like cricket, expectation of urban parents from their children.. status of sports infrastructure in rural areas, where the affordability in high cost sports like gymnastics/ swimming... etc., It is very difficult unless government, coporates and big institutions take a vow and work commitedly to address all the issues concerned..

following may be tried out
1) Parents expectation towards children should change -- they are investing in children and want to see them only in profiles where the future is guarranteed and less of hasles.
2) Talent should be spotted at the age of 9
3) Govt and corporates should come forward to sponsor the talented child and guarrantee them with a job ..

Dear Prabhat,
You are right when you say that China is able to find talent at an early age of 6. This is not only in sports. They have a very systematic approach to what they want to achieve. And they apply this approach to every field. When foreigners came to invest in China the best talent available was given to the industry in which they were investing. Whereas in our case when ever any foreign company came to invest they were provided with what ever is available is given to them. Which is not good for the foreign investor as well as for the country as a whole. Moreover, politics and corruption are there in every sphere of an Indian's life. We know it well too. That is the only reason why we are not able to find talent and get good results. And the fields in which these two have not played any role we have succeded. This any body can see for himself.
