Q.

Daily, Millions of Dollars (Crores of Rupees) run into the Donation Boxes of the richly trust's of Tirupati Balaji, Shirdi Sansthan, Ajmer Sharif Dargah, etc. BUT .... these foundations/trust's dont ever come up when people need them the most .... like at times of Tsunami, Eartquakes or the recent example of terror attacks in Mumbai. To the best of my knowledge, I havent ever heard or seen any trust helping out people during such crisis. What "impression" does it gives???

Superb question. I only once heard about one mission " Mata Amrutanand mayi Trust " is making 100 houses for tsunami victims and did so. You are right CNN, actually this activities shows their loyalty to the nation and its people. In my opinion, all are doing business in the name of caste, religion & belief. Its a thought provoking question and i appreciate for you that. Recently I have heard that many indians donated to the Clinton Foundation. hehe desh ka gareebi abhi tak nahin mita....chale bhaiyye duniya sudhaarne.....what a joke :)

Just like all things which have govt hand in it.... there is no transperancy in finance matters......the temples, churches and dargahs that u mention are jointly run by the govt and the trust. These places spend the money regularly on many things...like choultries, food for poor, free medical and education for the downtrodden on a regular basis..... the trusts perhaps doesnt find any need to do things only during disasters. If you have been to the places you mention, you will realise that immense fund goes back into management itself and the money is well spent on public welfare also. Since govt also. has a hand in running of these places of worship....much of the funds collected go to the hungry politicians who use the money to further their own party or self. Even if the trust donates money for the disaster struck....the money will not reach the deserving but go into the hands of politicians personal kitty. Like peekay says, how does an average politician get money to donate ...more
